Shortcomings of Encap 1.x
Because there has never been an Encap 1.x specification, each of
the existing package managers handle these packages slightly
differently. Here are some of the specific ways in which they may
vary:
- No standard for package names, which makes it difficult if not
impossible to determine when a new version of the same package is
present.
- No agreement on whether or not files in the Package Directory itself
should be linked into the Target Directory.
- No clear standard for conflict resolution.
- For Encap 1.1 packages, there are no clear guidelines on how package
scripts must behave.
